<image:caption>We donate books to children and libraries of Title I schools to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other disabilities. Passing along Nancy’s legacy of the love of reading to school children is an important step to educate communities about Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other disabilities. In addition to Title I schools, we also donate books to local libraries. Libraries within cities Nancy lived have maintained a special place in our hearts. Nancy took her kids to the library every two weeks which instilled her love of reading into them, and giving back to libraries is important to our mission.</image:caption>

The book takes young readers on the journey of learning in an age-appropriate way that seven-year-old Nia’s Granddad has Alzheimer’s and will need to move to a new home. They also learn that while Nia’s Granddad is changing, the love they have between them never will.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A total of 825 books were donated to Granville Central Schools grade PreK-12. A total of 301 students from PreK-3 received their own individual books. Classroom libraries in grades PreK-6 received books for their own rooms. Mary J. Tanner Primary School, Granville Elementary School and Granville Junior/ Senior High School were provided books for their libraries. “I cannot thank the Nana's Books Foundation enough for their kind and generous gift to our schools. Alzheimer's awareness and understanding are vital for our students. Alzheimer's has touched many of our lives in a very real and personal way. The better we can educate our students, the better they will be able to assist and support those experiencing the disease.” Thomas McGurl, Superintendent of Granville Central Schools “Students, faculty and staff extend a warm thank you for the donation of books for our children. The donated titles were used in our classrooms and provided children with a book to read at home. The Mary J Tanner school family appreciates this generosity.” Paul Morcone, Mary J. Tanner Principal “A very special thank you to Nana's Book foundation for their generous donation to our classroom libraries. On behalf of Granville Elementary School, I would like to thank you for bringing awareness and understanding of multiple disabilities that students may encounter in life.” Cara Talmadge, Granville Elementary School Principal</image:caption>

<image:caption>On July 22, 2021, Nana’s Books Foundation made its first official donation of books to Pember Library in Granville, NY. This was a special day for us as we honored Nancy Dulniak at the library where she fell in love with reading. Nancy grew up in Granville, NY and was awarded her first library card at the age of 6! As she grew older, she volunteered at Pember Library as an assistant. It was here where she knew in her heart that she wanted to make a career as a librarian. A donation of 21 books on Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other disabilities were provided witnessed by many family and friends. "Family members dealing with Alzheimer’s have so much to learn. These books help to give guidance and support to caregivers. In the early 1960s, my grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. A collection of books like this might have been helpful to my mother who was overwhelmed with the job of caring for him, while working and raising five children." <image:title>Our Vision - Providing youth with the joy of reading.</image:title>
<image:caption>Nana’s Books Foundation was officially founded in 2020 as Nancy Dulniak was suffering in her final stages of Alzheimer’s. The idea was brought upon her love of books as well as her professional career as a librarian. In 2018, books were donated to several classrooms of underprivileged youth in Nancy’s name as Christmas gifts. Each year since, children were provided Christmas gifts of books in honor of Nancy. Our vision is to continue to provide children with books, which will also include books about Alzheimer’s and dementia. We wish to continue to spread the love of reading to our youth, but also introduce them to a disease that will likely have some effect on them, whether it be a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or friend. — Mark Dulniak Co-founder, Treasurer</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Team - Nancy Dulniak - wife, mom, librarian</image:title>
<image:caption>In memoriam of Nancy Dulniak, Nana’s Books Foundation was born. Nancy Jane Downey was born in 1951 in Granville, NY, to Robert and Charlotte Downey, where she grew up along with her three older sisters, Pat, Peg, and Pam. She thoroughly enjoyed small-town life, ice-skating on the local pond, getting sweet treats from the local store, Scotty’s, and making life-long friends. In 1969, she ventured off to college at SUNY Fredonia where she met her husband-to-be on the first day of orientation. She and Dennis were never separated after that day, graduating college and starting a family together. They settled in Bozeman, MT where she had 2 boys, Mark and Craig. Her passion to become a librarian grew stronger as her boys started school. In 1987, she was able to obtain her Master’s in Librarianship from University of South Carolina. She started her professional career at Piedmont Technical College as a research librarian. Later, she worked at the the federal law library in Nashville, TN, then as a tenured Librarian at Austin Peay State University, and Cataloger at Maitland Public Library, FL. In 2014, she retired from the Florida A&M University College of Law Library thereupon being diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment, a precursor to Alzheimer’s Disease. During retirement, Nancy enjoyed countless athletic events, musical and theatrical performances, sang weekly with the Central Florida Community Arts Musical Minds choir, and traveled the world with Dennis, visiting places she had dreamed of seeing, including Ireland, Wales, Poland, and Italy, and cruising the Panama Canal and the Alaskan coast. Though distance limited frequent visits, Nancy loved her grandsons deeply and enjoyed playing with and watching videos of them. Nancy loved books immensely and often had 2-3 books in the works of reading. She also loved the International Storytelling Festivals, which she attended annually until she could no longer. She would often read to her grandsons, passing along her joy. This love of books and reading is the reason behind Nana’s Books Foundation. In Nancy’s honor, we pass along not only her enjoyment of reading, but also helping to educate youth about Alzheimer’s and dementia.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Tobias Keene, D.D.S. Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Tobias Keene brings a bit of unabashed Southern hospitality to all his patients. He moved to Washington, D.C. over thirty years ago as a freshman at Ivy College. Right after graduation, he attended World University’s School of Dentistry. Before opening Keene Dental in 1994, he worked for free clinics and some of the finest practices in the District. He is part of the 123 Dental Association and stays up-to-date on the latest dental discoveries. When not striving to keep his patients happy and healthy, he’s enjoys hiking with his family in Rock Creek Park.</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Team - Mark Dulniak - son, Co-founder, Treasurer, B.S.</image:title>
<image:caption>Mark, eldest son of Nancy and Dennis Dulniak, lives with his wife and son in Knoxville, TN. Mark started donating books in his Mom’s honor to local Knoxville classrooms in 2018. The students wrote Thank You notes back to her, which brought her great joy. The tradition continued each Christmas, and as Nancy’s health declined, Nana’s Books Foundation was founded to continue her legacy to share her love of books. Mark advocates for Alzheimer’s awareness and encourages families to speak to their children, at a young age, the journey and expectations as the disease progresses.</image:caption>
